Cleaning and maintenance of CYC components

If you check the condition of your bike regularly, you can get the best out of it and reduce the risk of a technical defect. Of course, cleaning the motor system involves more effort than cleaning the bike alone – but it’s worth it!

Before you start, make sure that the battery is disconnected. This applies to general storage, transportation and all maintenance and modification work on your e-bike. Do not attempt to dismantle or modify the drive unit – unless you actually need to replace one or two components.

Cleaning

As dirt (especially mud) can build up over time, we recommend cleaning the bike before you park it. Take a damp cloth and use it to clean the guard, motor housing, chainring, chain guard and display. Do not use soap-like liquids to clean the motor, only clean water. A small brush can be used to remove dirt particles.

Even if the components are rainproof, you should not completely soak the cleaning cloth. Of course, the motor and components must not be immersed in water, as this can lead to irreversible damage. Make sure that the cleaned components are completely dry before using them again.

Self-maintenance

There is no specific time for self-maintenance of the system. However, we recommend checking the overall condition before and after every ride. This is very simple, as only a few things need to be observed:

  • Make sure that no grease is running out of the gearbox
  • Check for loose bolts and nuts
  • Check cable condition visually
  • Check the chain for sufficient tension and lubrication. If necessary, commercially available chain cleaner and lubricant can be used.
  • Make sure that no unusual noises occur when the motor is running.

Cleaning, self-maintenance and servicing your CYC engine can make the difference between a smooth ride and breaking down. If you notice anything unusual before, during or after your ride, don’t hesitate to contact us.
