Nowadays, updates have become standard: Smartphone apps, televisions, kitchen appliances and even electric cars regularly demand them. So why not the e-bike motor too? But when does it make sense? And for what? Let’s take a closer look. <\/p>\n
When should I install a firmware update?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The updates of the Bafang BBS motors are not further developments as we are used to – these updates are used to flash\/reset<\/strong> the system or the controller software<\/strong>. This can be helpful if a phantom error<\/strong> has crept in. A phantom error is when the error is not present but is still shown by the system on the display. This sometimes occurs with the Bafang BBSHD motor, e.g. error 12 (Current Sensor Abnormality). This error would indicate a current measurement error in the controller. We have already had some controllers where this error could be corrected by a firmware update. If this still does not help, then the error is actually present and the controller must be replaced. <\/p>\n The Bafang BBSHD mid-motor has been supplied with 48V firmware from the factory since 2019. This means that the controller allows a maximum battery voltage of 54.6V. With the 52V (14S) battery, the final charging voltage is 58.8V. If this battery is now connected to the BBSHD motor, error 07<\/strong> (High Voltage Protection) appears. A firmware update to 52V increases the max. permissible system voltage from 54.6 to approx. 59V – so the 52V battery can also be used. <\/p>\n The BBSHD 52V firmware update also has another advantage: For 1-2 years, the BBSHD motors have only been available with a maximum of 28A (instead of 30A) from the factory. This update also increases<\/strong> this parameter from 28A to 30A<\/strong>, so that it is possible to increase the value to 30 in the Basic settings under CURRENT. <\/p>\n What is required to install the update?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n In addition to the programming cable (linked below), the following items are required:<\/p>\n Both the software and the update file are included when ordering the update (linked below). A pdf manual is also included in the scope of delivery. The software is only compatible with Windows operating systems. The programming cable is required to connect the controller to the laptop. <\/p>\n How does the installation of the update work?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n We have illustrated this clearly in the video below. Important: The process must not be interrupted. The settings and sequence should also be followed very carefully. The battery should only be connected at the end. <\/p>\n\n
